Akshay Kumar’s 1994 action blockbuster Mohra is set for a 4K remastered theatrical re-release on November 6, 2026, placing it in direct competition with Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana: Part 1, which arrives a day earlier on November 5.
The re-release was confirmed by Trimurti Films Private Limited through an announcement video on its official YouTube channel. Mohra will be brought back by Deepinder Singh’s Rimpy Films International in a restored 4K version, promising improved picture and sound for a new generation of moviegoers.
A Diwali Box Office Showdown
Ramayana: Part 1, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, during the Diwali holiday period.
The epic has drawn massive attention for its reported Rs 4,000 crore budget. However, actor and co-producer Yash has clarified that this figure represents the combined investment for both parts of the planned two-film franchise, not the budget of Ramayana: Part 1 alone.
Mohra, meanwhile, will return exactly 32 years after its original release. Its Diwali-week re-release could attract audiences looking for nostalgia, mass entertainment and a familiar 1990s action experience alongside the big-budget mythological spectacle.
Ramayana Advance Booking Status
Ramayana: Part 1 has made a strong start at the ticket window. As of October 26, the film had crossed Rs 20 crore in reported worldwide advance gross bookings, with approximately 2.25 lakh tickets sold across India and tracked international markets.
The worldwide figure includes bookings for the November 4 paid-preview screenings as well as the film’s opening day on November 5. It has crossed $2 million in global pre-sales, around ten days before release.
In India, Sacnilk reported Rs 11.78 crore in opening-day advance gross, including blocked seats, and Rs 9.56 crore excluding blocked seats, across 4,658 shows. Another trade estimate placed the film’s opening-weekend advance gross at Rs 12.50 crore, with around 2.16 lakh tickets sold across 161 cities; including blocked seats, the reported gross rises to Rs 23.28 crore.
| Advance booking metric | Status |
|---|---|
| Worldwide advance gross | Rs 20.50 crore or more |
| Tickets sold worldwide | Around 2.25 lakh |
| India opening-day advance gross | Rs 11.78 crore, including blocked seats |
| India opening-day advance, excluding blocked seats | Rs 9.56 crore |
| Shows tracked in India | 4,658 |
| Paid-preview sales | Around $550,000 |
Demand has been particularly strong in the Telugu states and North America, with several shows already sold out. Hindi remains the leading version in advance sales, while Kannada and Telugu bookings have begun in selected locations; Tamil and Malayalam bookings are yet to open more widely.
The film has also moved ahead of Dhurandhar 2 in reported BookMyShow advance ticket sales at the comparable 10-days-before-release checkpoint, selling about 1.42 lakh tickets against the latter’s 1.39 lakh.
Box Office Projections
Early trade estimates suggest that Ramayana: Part 1 is headed for a massive opening. Box office tracker Sacnilk projects a cautious Hindi net opening of Rs 60 crore, with the expected range at Rs 65–70 crore; a stronger performance could push the Hindi net figure to Rs 80 crore.
Across all languages, Sacnilk estimates an India net opening of more than Rs 110 crore, with India gross collections projected at around Rs 132 crore. The film’s worldwide opening-day gross is projected to exceed Rs 200 crore, including an estimated $7 million from overseas markets.
Pinkvilla has offered a slightly more conservative India-wide first-day forecast of Rs 65–75 crore net, while noting that the film’s final opening will depend heavily on advance-booking momentum and word of mouth after paid previews.
| Projection | Ramayana: Part 1 |
|---|---|
| Hindi net opening | Rs 60–80 crore |
| All-India net opening | Rs 110 crore or more |
| India gross opening | Around Rs 132 crore |
| Worldwide gross opening | Rs 200 crore or more |
| Overseas opening | Around $7 million |
For Mohra, no official box office projection has been announced. However, its prospects are likely to depend on nostalgia-driven footfall, limited but targeted screen allocation, and strong performance at single screens and smaller centres where classic re-releases often perform well. Its 4K restoration could help it compete for the Diwali audience seeking familiar mass entertainment rather than a new big-budget spectacle.
Why Mohra Still Matters
Directed by Rajiv Rai, Mohra remains one of the defining Hindi action films of the 1990s. The film starred Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon and Suniel Shetty, with Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal and Raza Murad in key roles.
The movie was a major commercial success and is remembered for its high-octane action, chart-topping music and memorable performances. Its return in 4K gives longtime fans a chance to revisit the film on the big screen, while younger audiences can experience the cult classic in a modern theatrical format.
What The Clash Could Mean
The timing creates an unusual box office contest: a newly made, visually ambitious mythological epic versus a restored 1990s mass-action favourite. Ramayana: Part 1 is expected to dominate screens and advance bookings, but Mohra could benefit from strong fan loyalty, single-screen appeal and Diwali nostalgia.
For exhibitors, the clash may also widen audience choice during one of the most important release windows of the year. While Ramayana targets families and pan-India audiences across multiple languages, Mohra is likely to draw repeat viewers and fans of classic Hindi cinema.
More Re-Releases Planned
Trimurti Films is also reportedly planning theatrical re-releases of other classics from its catalogue, including Vidhaata (1982), Tridev (1989), Gupt (1994) and Yudh (1985).
The move reflects the growing trend of re-releasing successful older films in restored formats, as studios look to monetise established fanbases and offer theatrical experiences that streaming platforms cannot fully replicate.
Release Dates
| Film | Release date | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Ramayana: Part 1 | November 5, 2026 | New theatrical release |
| Mohra | November 6, 2026 | 4K remastered re-release |
With Diwali week shaping up as one of 2026’s biggest cinematic battlegrounds, all eyes will now be on whether Akshay Kumar’s Mohra can hold its own against the Rs 4,000-crore Ramayana franchise.
