Oppo unveiled the Reno 12 series on May 23rd, 2024, in China. The lineup consists of two models – the Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro – Both phones boast impressive features, including a 50-megapixel front camera, an 80W fast charging system, and powerful MediaTek Dimensity processors.

Display

Both phones feature a large 6.7-inch FHD+ 1.5K (2,772 x 1,240 pixels) curved OLED displays, offering a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, up to 1,200 nits peak brightness, 2,160Hz PWM dimming rate, and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. This makes them ideal for gaming, watching videos, and scrolling through social media.

Design

The Reno 12 series will sport a sleek and stylish design with a quad-curved display for a comfortable grip. The phone also has an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance and in-display fingerprint sensors.

The standard Oppo Reno 12 comes in Ebony Black, Millennium Silver, and Soft Peach (translated from Chinese), while the Reno 12 Pro offers Champagne Gold, Ebony Black, and Silver Magic Purple (translated from Chinese).

Camera System

Both phones come with a triple-camera setup on the back, featuring 50-megapixel main sensors, 50-megapixel telephoto cameras with up to 20x digital zoom, and 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooters.

The primary difference is that the base Oppo Reno 12 uses a Sony LYT-600 main sensor, while the Reno 12 Pro is equipped with a Sony IMX890 main sensor. This combination should capture stunning photos and videos in various lighting conditions.

Additionally, the 50-megapixel front camera on both Reno 12 models is a significant upgrade from previous generations, offering a substantial leap in selfie quality. This sensor boasts more pixels, capturing finer details and sharper images, even in low-light conditions. With features like AI beautification and HDR support, you can expect natural-looking selfies with improved clarity and dynamic range.

Performance

The Oppo Reno 12 series is powered by MediaTek Dimensity processors, known for their balance of performance and power efficiency. The Oppo Reno 12 is powered by a 4nm octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 8250 Star Speed Edition SoC, while the Pro variant features the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ Star Speed Edition chipset.

The phones also support 5G, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, Beidou, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and USB Type-C connectivity.

Battery and Charging

Both phones come equipped with a large 5000mAh battery, ensuring long-lasting power throughout the day. The star of the show, however, is the 80W SuperVOOC fast charging system, which can significantly reduce charging times. This is a huge convenience for users who are always on the go and need to quickly top up their battery.

Software

The Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro run on the latest Android 14 operating system with Oppo’s ColorOS 14 on top. ColorOS 14 is known for its user-friendly interface and customization options, along with the security and performance improvements of Android 14.

Storage and RAM

Both phones offer a range of storage and RAM options, allowing users to choose the configuration that best suits their needs. The highest option goes up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 onboard storage, providing ample space for apps, games, photos, and videos.

OPPO Reno 12, OPPO Reno 12 Pro: Price Availability

In China, the base model of Oppo Reno 12 is priced at CNY 2,699 (about Rs. 31,000) for the 12GB + 256GB variant. The 12GB + 512GB and 16GB + 256GB options both cost CNY 2,999 (approximately Rs. 34,500), while the top-tier 16GB + 512GB version is priced at CNY 3,199 (roughly Rs. 36,800).

On the other hand, the Oppo Reno 12 Pro begins at CNY 3,399 (around Rs. 39,000) for the 12GB + 256GB model. The 16GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB configurations are available for CNY 3,699 (about Rs. 42,500) and CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs. 46,000), respectively.

The Oppo Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro are currently available for pre-order in China via the official Oppo website and other online retailers. They will go on sale in the country starting May 31. However, international availability and pricing for other regions have not been confirmed yet.

Overall, both phones appear to be feature-packed smartphones with a focus on high-resolution selfies, powerful performance, and incredibly fast charging. With their impressive specs and competitive pricing, they could be strong contenders in the mid-range smartphone market.
