As of today, the penalty for late PAN-Aadhaar linking is ₹1,000. This applies to individuals who haven’t linked their cards by the extended deadline of March 31, 2023.

Before you begin:

  • Ensure you have both your PAN card and Aadhaar card details readily available.
  • You’ll need a mobile phone linked to your Aadhaar card for OTP verification.

Pay the Penalty:

Online:

  1. Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal
  2. Click on “e-Pay Tax” under Quick Links.
  3. Enter your PAN, confirm it, and provide your mobile number for OTP verification.
  4. Click “Proceed” and select “Income Tax”.
  5. Choose the “Assessment Year 2024-25” and “Type of Payment (Minor Head)” as “Other Receipts (500)”.
  6. The pre-filled amount will be displayed. Click “Proceed” and follow the payment instructions.

Offline:

  1. Download and fill the Form 26AS.
  2. Pay the penalty amount (₹1,000) through challan ITNS 280.
  3. Submit the challan and Form 26AS at any authorized bank branch or Tax Information Facilitation Center (TIFC).

Once the penalty is paid:

  1. Go back to the Income Tax e-filing portal.
  2. Click “Link Aadhaar” under Quick Links.

  4. Verify your details and click “Link Aadhaar”.
  5. Enter the OTP received on your mobile number and click “Validate”.

You can also link your PAN and Aadhaar through SMS, Aadhaar Seva Kendra, or CSC centers.
